Ergonomic Nightmare of the Week: Laptop Wedge Pillow

Last week I recommended laptop stands as a way to angle or prop up a laptop for more ergonomic positioning. Little did I know, there is actually a laptop stand out there that is equally bad as hunching over the screen on your lap. This “laptop wedge pillow” was noted in ThisIsBroken for being an awkward looking, poorly designed, and unergonomic laptop stand.

Michael Dwyer points out:

Costco sells a Laptop wedge pillow. I can see all kinds of uses for a wedge pillow, but a laptop stand is not one of them.

First of all, the ergonomics are totally wrong. The photo shows a recipe for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Secondly, no laptop should be operated while sitting on a padded surface. You will cover the cooling vents and your laptop will overheat and eventually shut down, if not become damaged.

It’s almost like this product was invented to find a use for wedge shaped scrap at the foam factory that was just going to get thrown away.
