Since the XBox 360’s release last year, gamers around the world anticipate the release of the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 3. Besides obvious improvement in visual graphic technology, the next generation of gaming consoles will come equipped with game controllers the likes of which have never been seen before. The Wii’s new game controller has been heavily publicized as simpler to use and enabling more intuitive interaction with games. But what does the Playstation 3 have in store for us?
Well, according to Engadget, not much. But Engadget’s post was written last May, way before Friday, October 13 when Cyberhand Technologies International a company that makes revolutionary wireless ergonomic products including mice, keyboards, PDAs, as well as game controllers, supposedly announced an agreement with Logitech to redesign the PS3 controller.
The new PS3 controller will feature an innovative built-in cooling system designed to keep the hands of gamers cool and dry. The ChillStream controller will be the only gamepad for the platform to offer this exclusive, patented technology. Cyberhand’s controllers promise to be “simply the fastest, most comfortable and most responsive game control systems in the world today.” With that strong of a claim, the upcoming face off between the Wii and the PS3 will certainly be interesting. Will hardcore gamers opt for a totally new kind of controller, or a Lexus version of the a controller they already know and love. Or are hardcore gamers even the consumer-set to please this time around? Nintendo is betting on coralling in would-be gamers by bringing its controller back to basics.
But then… on October 18th, according to Stockwatch:
Cyberhand Technologies International Inc. (PINKSHEETS: CYHD), announces that a fake media communication was distributed last Friday, October 13, 2006 under the Company’s name. Neither Cyberhand, nor any of its partners or suppliers, issued any such communication.
The fake communication stated the Company will announce a $50 million development grant from Logitech International SA. for the development of a game controller. Cyberhand asserts that this information is false.
So the whole thing was fake? Engadget was right after all, the PS3 controller is nothing special. But why would someone issue a fake announcement? Some sort of Friday the 13th hoax? What do you make of it?
