The PenAgain Takes the World By Storm

Pen Again

When I first came across the PenAgain while surfing the net for interesting ergonomic products, I thought, “this looks cool.” I put this image in my gallery and didn’t think much more about it. Imagine my surprise when I saw an article on the PenAgain this morning in my local newspaper, the San Jose Mercury News.

As it turns out, the inventor of the PenAgain, Colin Roche, not only grew up in my hometown of Palo Alto but he also went to my high school where he supposedly invented the pen during detention. Cool, huh?

According to the article, the columnist Mike Cassidy didn’t think too much about the PenAgain either when Roche approached him to write an article on it four years ago. He expressed his deepest apologies though, when he finally covered the story in his blog on November 13.

PenAgain sales have surged since the Wall Street Journal also covered the story this month, and the PenAgain is now being shipped to stores like Walgreens, Walmart, and Office Depot by the truckload.

What I love about the PenAgain is that it is a simple, intuitive, affordable solution to an ergonomic problem. Using traditional pens and pencils for long periods of time is incredibly uncomfortable. I remember furiously scrawling away at my timed essays in high school and college, having to flap my hand around every few minutes to fight off the horrible cramping and pain it caused.

The success of the PenAgain shows that we are capable of accepting radically new designs of commonly used objects. I think the main reason the PenAgain has been able to catch on whereas many radically redesigned ergonomic keyboards and mice have not, is the price factor.

With the PenAgain’s price tag on Amazon.com ranging from $3-7, why not give it a try? It certainly can’t hurt…you might think. And to your surprise, the PenAgain is the most comfortable pen you have ever used. Unfortunately, many ergonomic keyboards and mice cost a couple hundred dollars, so they just don’t get the what-the-heck-I’ll-try-it! factor that the PenAgain is banking on.

If you’ll excuse me, I have to run down to Office Depot and get me a PenAgain!
